CES Wash Car

#CES_WashCar β€” Help & Troubleshooting

This page covers everything from installing the script to fixing the most common "why isn't this working" issues. Use the sections below to jump to what you need:

#For Players

#How to wash a vehicle

  1. Park the vehicle and turn the engine off.
  2. Get out of the vehicle and stand within a few meters of it.
  3. Press E (this may be rebound on your server β€” check Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM if E doesn't work).
  4. Stay near the vehicle while the gauge fills up. Walking away or pressing Backspace cancels the wash.

Vehicles also get dirty again the more they're actually driven β€” a parked car stays clean, but one you drive around will gradually need another wash.

#"Nothing happens when I press E"

  • Make sure you're standing outside the vehicle, not sitting in it.
  • Make sure you're close enough to the vehicle (a few meters β€” ask a server admin for the exact distance if you're not sure).
  • Check that E isn't bound to something else, or that you haven't rebound the wash key yourself in Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM.
  • If another script's menu or interaction is open, close it first β€” some scripts block other keybinds while open.

#"It says the engine needs to be off"

Someone (you or another player) is sitting in the vehicle with the engine running. Turn the engine off and make sure the driver's seat is empty before washing.

#"It says this vehicle was just washed"

Vehicles have a cooldown before they can be washed again. Wait for the timer shown in the message, or ask a server admin about the current cooldown length.

#"The wash got cancelled partway through"

This happens if you:

  • Walked too far from the vehicle mid-wash
  • Pressed Backspace to cancel
  • The vehicle despawned or was destroyed while washing

Just walk back up to the vehicle and try again.

#"The vehicle doesn't look clean afterward"

Each player's game renders their own view of vehicle dirt, so very minor cosmetic differences between players are normal. If a vehicle looks fully dirty (not just slightly), rejoin the server or ask an admin to check if the script is running correctly.

#"It says it couldn't reach the server"

This is a connection hiccup between your client and the server β€” try again in a few seconds. If it keeps happening, let a server admin know.

#For Server Owners

#Requirements

  • Standalone β€” no framework required (works without ESX, QBCore, or any other framework).
  • No database and no other resource dependencies.

#Installation

  1. Drop the whole CES_WashCar folder into your server's resources directory. Nesting it inside a category folder (e.g. [standalone]) is fine.
  2. Add this line to your server.cfg:
    ensure CES_WashCar
  3. Restart the resource (or the whole server).

That's it β€” no further setup is required for a default install.

#Configuration

All settings live in config.lua. Restart the resource after changing any of these for them to take effect.

Setting What it does
WashDistance How close a player needs to be to a vehicle to start washing it (meters).
WashDuration How long the wash takes to complete (seconds).
AnimDict / AnimName The animation played while washing.
DefaultKey Default keybind for /washcar. Players can still rebind this themselves.
CancelDistance How far a player can move from the vehicle mid-wash before it's cancelled.
CooldownSeconds Cooldown before the same vehicle can be washed again. Set to 0 to disable cooldowns.
DirtBuildup.Enabled Turns the driving-based dirt system on/off.
DirtBuildup.DirtPerKm How much dirt a vehicle gains per km actually driven.
DirtBuildup.Max Dirt cap (GTA's own maximum is 15.0).
DirtBuildup.MinMoveDistance Minimum movement between checks to count as "driving" (filters out parked jitter/physics settling).
DirtBuildup.RefreshInterval How often (seconds) nearby vehicles are checked for movement.
DirtBuildup.Radius Only vehicles within this distance of a player are tracked for dirt buildup.

#Troubleshooting

Resource won't start / errors in the server console

  • Confirm the folder is named CES_WashCar (or update your server.cfg line to match whatever you renamed it to) and that ensure CES_WashCar is actually in your server.cfg.
  • Make sure the whole folder β€” including fxmanifest.lua, config.lua, client.lua, server.lua, and the html folder β€” was copied over, not just some of the files.
  • Check config.lua for typos if you've edited it (e.g. a missing comma) β€” a broken config file will stop the resource from starting.

Players can't wash anything at all

  • Double-check ensure CES_WashCar is present and the resource shows as started (ensure won't error if the file is missing β€” use refresh and check for warnings, or run start CES_WashCar manually and watch the console).
  • Look for a naming conflict: if another resource also registers a washcar command or uses the same carwash:* events/state bag key, they can interfere with each other.

The gauge HUD (NUI) doesn't appear

  • Verify html/index.html, html/style.css, and html/script.js all exist under the resource and weren't excluded when the folder was uploaded to your server.
  • Some NUI-blocking or FPS-boost/streaming-optimization resources can interfere with other resources' NUI β€” try temporarily disabling those to isolate the issue.

Vehicles don't sync as clean for other players

  • This uses a replicated state bag (carwash:lastWashed), which is a core FiveM networking feature β€” it isn't affected by frameworks or most other resources. If it's not syncing, confirm the server isn't running a very outdated FXServer build (state bags require a reasonably modern artifact).

The keybind doesn't work for a specific player

  • They may have rebound or unbound it. Point them to Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM, under this resource's name, to check or reset it.

Dirt buildup isn't working

  • Confirm Config.DirtBuildup.Enabled is true.
  • Dirt only accumulates from vehicles being driven, not from time passing β€” a parked vehicle is expected to stay clean indefinitely.
  • If dirt buildup feels too slow/fast, adjust DirtPerKm.

#FAQ

Does this require ESX, QBCore, or any other framework?
No β€” it's fully standalone.

Can I change the wash key from E to something else?
Yes, either set Config.DefaultKey in config.lua, or players can rebind it individually in Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM.

Does washing cost money or use items?
No β€” the script doesn't include any economy integration out of the box.

Will two players washing the same vehicle at once cause issues?
No β€” the cooldown and wash state are tracked server-side, so this is handled safely.

Does this work on any vehicle?
Yes β€” it isn't limited to specific vehicle models.
